Whether you have one child or five I think at some point we all feel like we have missed the mark and failed our children. I have come to realize that as a parent we are not perfect, and we are still learning with our children everyday.
While I was pregnant with my first I thought of all the wonderful things that I would do for my little girl. How I would take care of her or how I would make sure her every need was met. For the most part when they are infants I believe that mothers meet every single need of their child. Then they grow and our babies become children and those children take lots of hard work. Being a mom is the most important job that there is! There is nothing more important, more hard, and more rewarding than being a mother. Parenting children is hard! You are teaching them on a daily basis how to be obedient, selfless, and caring children. Yes, they are children and they are going to throw tantrums, but we are the parent and it is our job to guide them.
I have three small children at home and some days are more challenging than others, but when it comes bedtime and I read them that story and tuck them in I can not believe that God would entrust these precious beings to me. They are so precious to me and I love them more than words can ever express. Children ARE a blessing, they are not burdens, or problems. Some days I just want to cry because I have spent the entire day correcting them and when I am frustrated I know that I am not being as loving as I should. I have to remind myself that even in a wrong situation I can still have a cheerful heart when correcting my girls. It isn’t easy when they have dumped all the toys out, they mashed their crackers in the floor, and the house is a total wreck. Days like these I feel like a failure because I have let things get too far out of hand and I was harsh with my words. I have to remember to stop and pray because we are going to fail daily, it does not matter who you are. Just know that at the end of the day your children have been fed, loved and taken care of by you and that is a accomplishment! You did not fail and tomorrow is a new day and you can start over.
